The Fox Hollow Residence, located in Eugene, Oregon is oriented for maximum exposure to the sun and views of the stunning nearby mountains. With a southwest exposure and sight lines all the way to the coast range, this residence was specifically designed to capture views from every room.
Designs for the Fox Hollow Residence feature three distinct sections: utility, living, and a bedroom. With the living spaces accessible on the same level, the residence is effectively compartmentalized into three lofted apartments. The resulting smaller-scale structures reduce the environmental impact of the home on the site. In the living room, walls stretch two-stories high making them a perfect place for owner's art collection.
Built into the hillside, as you approach the residence through the entry courtyard, it evokes a sense of calm. Nevertheless, visitors get a glimpse at the expansive southwest views through windows in the entry hall. Behind the CMU block wall is a private courtyard that opens into the upper living areas, giving owners a shady gardening space.
The craftsmanship and richness of materials draws from a Pacific Northwest vernacular through the use of natural cedar shingles, custom ironwork, and exposed salvaged timber beams. Every detail, from modern steel connections to the traditional Amish wood joinery, has been thoughtfully executed. By thinking outside of the box, this home has become a showcase of local craft, sustainability and efficient living.
