Westlane Shopping Center

Location: Veneta, OR | Completion Date: In Progress

The city of Veneta has been experiencing growth, yet the Westlane Shopping Center has been losing tenants. The objective of this project was to reinvigorate the Westlane Shopping Center into a thriving venue that attracts shoppers who are currently driving to nearby Eugene to satisfy their shopping needs, and to provide more curb appeal along its Route 126 frontage.

A primary focus of our design was to create a commercial environment that is attractive and inviting for families, which are the primary demographic in the area. This was accomplished by introducing an urban "main street" that serves to break down the scale of the site for a more pedestrian-friendly experience.

The proposed scheme utilizes landscaping as the framework for a revised parking layout, softening the edges with native plantings and trees. The existing faÇade is activated by two landmark towers that establish a strong connection to Route 126. The towers pick up on the vernacular motifs found in agricultural buildings and draw their inspiration from the area’s long history in the logging industry. The street presence is further enhanced by the addition of two new retail spaces at the main entrance. The proposed wayfinding graphics and signage tie the multiple zones of the site into a cohesive shopping center.
