In the spring of 2007 we adopted a new company name and logo, and in the fall we relocated our office to a building closer to the river. Now that we had a space that we could personalize, it was time to create an exterior sign that conveyed our design ideals to the world outside. Through a series of iterations, we transformed our new logo by extruding it into a 3-dimensional composition. The letters of the word “form” became 4 independent rectangular volumes that reveal the name through carved voids in the boxes. The “2” reads as an independent object, resulting in a dialog between object and void. These two contrasting elements are tied together with the word “architecture,” which is laser cut from a steel plate that intersects and organizes the other shapes.
