Nova Building

Location: Eugene, OR | Completion Date: In Progress

Located in the heart of downtown Eugene and originally designed by De Unthank, FAIA in 1968, the Nova Building is in need of updating. 2fORM Architecture has teamed up with specialists from the Eugene Water and Electric Board to pinpoint inefficient features of the building and determine methods to increase the building’s efficiency. This effort resulted in an assurance that the owner’s investments were being utilized in the best manner possible.

In addition to a new heating and cooling system, other recommendations to reduce the Nova Building’s energy consumption included vegetated window screens, canopies, and shading signage on the building exterior.

Another objective of this project was to modernize the faÇades to reconnect the building to the adjacent streetscape. To bring the building scale down to street level, we investigated several schemes of signage, and played with adding color, vegetation, lighting and awnings.
